Ron Carpenter

Who are you?
Ron Carpenter, Font Design.
When did you join Dalton Maag?
October 1997, I think.
Tell us about yourself
I live in Reigate with my wife and son and when I'm not working I enjoy escaping to the hills on my mountain bike. I also like to bash out a few tunes on the piano, much to the annoyance of the rest of the family!
What prompted you to take your current role?
I fell into it, there was no grand strategy! I started designing at Monotype in 1968 and have stuck with it ever since, so something must have clicked into place. To be doing something as creative and useful as type design is not a bad way to make a living.
What's your favourite part of your job?
The knitty-gritty of day-to-day problem solving and working alongside the smart young designers here at DaMa. Also, seeing our fonts in use, knowing I had something to do with their existence.
What's your Small Object of Design, and why?
My spectacles. I have three pairs which is crazy, I know, but without them life would be pretty miserable and I wouldn't be designing still!
