- Who are you?
- Lukas Paltram, Typeface Designer.
- When did you join Dalton Maag?
- I started as an intern in October 2008 and joined the team as a font designer in June 2009.
- Tell us about yourself
- I'm from the most eastern part of Austria (no mountains, no Lederhosen). After studying Graphic Design at the New Design University, I moved to London where I stayed for two years. I now live and work in Vienna where I enjoy my time together with my girlfriend, family and friends.
- What prompted you to take your current role?
- I've always been happy with a blank piece of paper and something to draw on it. During my time at university I discovered that I had a passion for letters in all their various forms. During my internship I learned how interesting it is to design a good font, it's a discipline that demands creativity as well as discipline and patience; it's always challenging, that's why I stick with it.
- What's your favourite part of your job?
- To see the finished font in action. Working on a font is a bit like putting together a big jigsaw puzzle. It only holds together when every little piece is in the right place which takes a lot of effort, it's great when you can complete it and see the whole picture.
- What's your Small Object of Design, and why?
- It's a difficult question, but I would choose the classical Bialetti moka pot. It's honest, pretty and functional; and I use it more often than my iPad.
