- Who are you?
- David Marshall, Operations Director.
- When did you join Dalton Maag?
- June 1999.
- Tell us about yourself
- I am not a designer - I can't draw for toffee - but I love type design. The ability to use abstract shapes to communicate with a specific tone of voice has fascinated me for most of my life. I have a background in computing, so naturally I have ended up working for a digital typeface foundry.
- What prompted you to take your current role?
- I was asked. I started at Dalton Maag as a software engineer, but as it grew I was asked to use different skills to help the business.
- What's your favourite part of your job?
- Getting feedback from clients and designers that we've delivered something that they find genuinely useful and easy to work with.
- What's your Small Object of Design, and why?
- The Lego brick, or ideally lots of Lego bricks. They can do anything you want, be anything you want, and are a good example of why precision matters.
