David Marshall

Who are you?
David Marshall, Operations Director.
When did you join Dalton Maag?
June 1999.
Tell us about yourself
I am not a designer - I can't draw for toffee - but I love type design. The ability to use abstract shapes to communicate with a specific tone of voice has fascinated me for most of my life. I have a background in computing, so naturally I have ended up working for a digital typeface foundry.
What prompted you to take your current role?
I was asked. I started at Dalton Maag as a software engineer, but as it grew I was asked to use different skills to help the business.
What's your favourite part of your job?
Getting feedback from clients and designers that we've delivered something that they find genuinely useful and easy to work with.
What's your Small Object of Design, and why?
The Lego brick, or ideally lots of Lego bricks. They can do anything you want, be anything you want, and are a good example of why precision matters.
