Nokia Pure Nominated for Design Museum Award

Dalton Maag's custom font, Nokia Pure, designed for the mobile phone giant Nokia, has been nominated for the Design Museum's Designs of the Year 2012 awards. In an annual event nicknamed the "Oscars of the design world", the Design Museum showcases the best and most innovative designs from around the world. Nokia Pure Text has been nominated in the Graphics category.

Nokia Pure was launched in March 2011 as part of Nokia's brand refresh to accompany the launch of its new range of smartphones. Its aesthetic origins are in the clean lines and pure design ethics of Finland. It aims to be a font that speaks with simplicity and yet over-flows with character, but is also effortlessly functional in a digital world. The font family is designed and engineered to work on the small screens of handsets, as well as printed in the real world on paper and billboards.

Bruno Maag said "I'm very excited by the nomination. It is rare that a typeface gets such recognition, especially amongst the many excellent works in the Graphics category. It is a fantastic acknowledgement that Nokia Pure has made a real impact on the design world."

In a diverse list, Nokia Pure has been nominated alongside the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress, the London 2012 Olympic torch and a device to clear landmines. The exhibition begins on 8th February and winners are announced 24th April. A winner for each category will be selected by an international jury and one overall winner is awarded Design of the Year.
