Typographer Klaus Bartels has died
The shocking news just arrived that on last Thursday August 8, 2005, the Berlin-based typographer Klaus Bartels died during his jogging exercise at the age of 56. Klaus Bartels spent many years at the Berlin-based H Berthold AG and its successor H Berthold Systeme GmbH, where he was responsible for the typeface digitization of the Berthold Type Collection. When the Chicago-based Berthold Types Ltd. acquired the Berthold trademarks and the Berlin Berthold company went bankrupt, Klaus Barthels and other former employees of the Berlin Berthold company started Babylon Schrift Kontor, where they continued the development of digital fonts.
