Co is blossoming

At first glance, Co appears to be a geometric font design, with near circular round characters and even character widths, but closer inspection reveals that every detail in this beautiful font family is organic. Co grew organically; its elements added as they were needed, and pruned where they did not fit. Growing the Co font family is happening in the same fashion, with new members added as it evolves.

Our recent work with Barclaycard encouraged us to expand the Co font family to support Greek and Cyrillic; the organic elements that are so successful in the Latin design naturally recur in these new script systems, but as nature grows according to its environment, Co Greek and Co Cyrillic have adapted the design features to perfectly fit the characters of these scripts.

It was a challenge to nurture idiosyncratic character designs for Greek and Cyrillic, to make sure that both the Headline and Text fonts retain their different identities, but the resulting font designs prove that evolution always wins over construction.

Licences for the new Co fonts are available for purchase from our website, or contact us to discuss volume and OEM licensing. To help you decide whether Co is the right font for you, we will be sending out a new pack of specimen sheets in January. To ensure you receive them, register with us and complete your postal details.

Quality TV with quality fonts

Pleks is a Danish design agency based in Copenhagen. Its founding partner Mads Quistgaard has been a long-standing friend of Dalton Maag, so when Mads was approached by Bang & Olufsen to consider the typography of the menu screens on a variety of its display devices, Mads turned to us for assistance.

Mads and Bruno visited B&O's headquarters to discuss script systems and technical requirements, and it was clear that design permeates everything B&O does, from the architecture of the headquarters to the details which most people might consider insignificant. This dedication to quality and attention to detail makes B&O's products so valuable and durable. And this dedication made them realize that the typographic quality of their displays was, at the time, lacking.

Mads had already developed the branding font for B&O, so it was only right that Mads would take the lead on this project. He provided our team with the designs for the basic character set which our designers then refined and expanded into a fully-functional font family consisting of three Roman weights. When we were hinting the fonts we worked closely with the engineers at B&O to ensure the fonts would be suitable for all their display devices, from basic black and white to sophisticated sub-pixel LCD rasterization techniques.

Together with Pleks we also produced a font containing a number of icons which meets exactly the same technical requirements as the font.

Dalton Maag expands and consolidates

Our new Cairo Office gives us a base on our third continent, Africa, but with existing representation in the Americas and Europe, we have decided to consolidate the activities of our Swiss office with our London studio to improve the service we can deliver to our German-speaking clients. With immediate effect, the German-speaking staff at our London studio will be happy to deal with any inquiry you may have.

By consolidating our two European offices into the creative hub of London we believe we are better placed to respond to our clients' needs. Today, most business is conducted by email and phone but a face-to-face meeting is sometimes the only way to address a question. London is only a short journey away from any such meeting, and we are happy to visit to discuss any queries you may have. For all your questions you can now email info@daltonmaag.com or phone +44 20 7924 0633.
